What is
Miracle Swimming?

Miracle Swimming is a new system of teaching — since 1983– that guarantees that adults who are not comfortable in water over their heads or who are afraid in water will overcome their fear and learn to swim. To date, over 5000 adults have graduated from our courses and over 60 instructors have been trained worldwide.

The point of learning to swim is safety:

The ability to rely on yourself for your safety in water over your head.
Once you can swim, you can learn to swim efficiently: strokes. Strokes come later, after the Beginning and Next Step courses.

Miracle Swimming, a completely different way to teach, will remind you of how you learned as a child: you were fully "there." Our system is available from us and our licensed instructors, only.

There is no other system that can teach you in only 48 hours at your own pace how to be confident and free in deep water and how to prevent panic —  having fun. At least we have not found it in 35 years of searching! People from 50 states and 16 countries have come to be successful at last.

Our System

It's easy and fun

Every single last adult can learn to swim — to be free and confident in water, shallow and deep — at his/her own pace. On average, this typically takes two weeks (48 hours) of Miracle Swimming classes.

The "magic" is our system

"Why hasn't anyone ever thought of this before?" is a question we often hear. It's a universal system that cannot fail, that was released in our DVD in 2000 and in our book in 2006. Adult non-swimmers can learn 30-100% of it by reading our book.

Does anyone fail?

No, unless they don’t use the system. If they push themselves or don’t ask their questions, they fail to make significant progress. About one student per year does this.

Be free in water

Everyone will learn to be free in water if they take both Beginning and Next Step courses. Sometimes, a student needs more time, taking more than one Beginning or Next Step classes. You can also learn a lot by practicing Miracle Swimming on your own. Become mindful and calm for experiences that once made you panic.

Go at your own pace

Everyone goes at his/her own pace, based on one’s history and one’s willingness to stay true to oneself. There is no bad student. One student took classes for 18 months nonstop. She overcame her fear and became a trans-Pacific sailor, on “watch” by herself in the dead of night in the middle of the Pacific. Then she became one of our instructors.

Heal your fear

Imagine a system that makes possible the healing of any fear. It is applicable to all teaching and learning. Every adult and child can learn to swim on their first attempt, enjoyably.

If you can rely on yourself for your safety in water over your head and you’re perfectly happy there, you can already Swim. The point of further lessons might be learning strokes for efficiency, speed, and exercise. Any traditional learn-to-swim agency near you can teach you strokes.

However, if you cannot rely on yourself for your safety in deep water, or you are the least bit uncomfortable there, Miracle Swimming for Adults is the school for you.

There is an erroneous belief by the public, which effects most adult non-swimmers.

— swim vs. Swim

You probably have at least one friend who grew up with parents who took him/her to the pool when he/she was young and they played together. At an early age, her parents passed her between them in the water so she could learn how the water worked. Then, say by age two or three, she could move from here to there on her own, come up for air when she needed it, and turn onto her back to rest. Her movements were fast, her hands were inefficient, and she held her breath most of the time, but it worked. She felt safe and she liked being in the water. She felt the water holding her up and she was in control.

Her mom may have said to her friends at a play date, “Susie can Swim! I mean, she can’t swim, but she can Swim!” The mom is referring to two things. But she’s using the same word. Susie knows how the water works and has become independent for short periods of time. She can “Swim.” But she doesn’t know formal strokes yet: she can’t “swim.”

"I can swim"

The non-capitalized "swim" means strokes.
Strokes provide efficiency: greater distance per stroke and less energy output over the distance. Strokes are not for safety.

"I can Swim"

The capitalized "Swim" indicates safety in water.
To be able to Swim safely requires knowing how the water works with one’s body. The point of learning to Swim is safety: the ability to rely on oneself for one’s safety in water over one’s head. Another point of learning to swim is exercise...but you can't learn to swim in deep water until you've learned to Swim.

There are two definitions of “I can swim” in the United States and around the world. Therefore, there is confusion about who can swim and who cannot.

Many children and adults have passed a test by swimming (stroking) from one end of the pool to the other. That tested whether they could swim, not Swim.

If they were not required to stop and rest peacefully for five minutes or so in water over their heads, they have not demonstrated that they can Swim. Therefore, many people who can’t Swim think they can. This is an unsafe situation.

Once you learn to Swim, you can learn to swim efficiently with strokes. Strokes are the choreography of swimming: advanced techniques like freestyle, backstroke, or breaststroke.

Once a person learns to Swim, they can then learn to swim.
Learning strokes does not imply or guarantee learning to Swim.

...Because everyone should know how to swim. Just as everyone needs to know how to cross the street, knowing how to swim can save your life. You may only need to know it once, but that one time makes all the difference. Perhaps more importantly, knowing how to swim increases your “everyday” self-confidence.

Miracle Swimming has fixed every problem of lessons that may have left you discouraged in the past.

It literally guarantees learning.

Miracle Swimming is designed specifically for adults who are fearful in deep water. Every topic needed for success is included.
